The great British Artist J M W Turner lived locally and painted many sunsets here. These works still stand as some of the most transendental paintings in British Fine Art. A new gallery bearing his name is to be built in Margate one day; Turner Contemporary. The area (Thanet) also contains the towns of Broastairs and the port of Ramsgate (where incidentally Van Gogh lived and taught for a while).</video:description>

The core of the material featured is an 8mm home movie that I took in 1961 on a day trip from Southend-on-Sea aboard the steamer, MV Royal Daffodil, and I've cut in some earlier filmed clips from other sources. Much of the action is centred on Margate's famous amusement park, Dreamland - and includes footage of the legendary Scenic Railway and many other rides - some of which had thrilled generations of holiday-makers - as far back as the 1930s. The accompanying music is the appropriately titled 'I'm Drifting Back To Dreamland' played on Hammond Organ by Ken Griffin. Enjoy!</video:description>

SS Great Britain was the first ocean-going ship to have an iron hull and a screw propeller and, when launched in 1843, was the largest vessel afloat. She originally carried 120 first-class passengers (26 of whom were in single cabins), 132 second-class passengers and 130 officers and crew but, when an extra deck was added, it increased the number of passengers to 730.It is now an award-winning visitor attraction and museum in Bristol Harbour. This is a full-scale replica of the ship on which John Cabot sailed to America in 1497. She was built in Bristol to celebrate the 500th anniversary of his discovery of Newfoundland</video:description>

The city also has one of the UK's finest Zoos and an impressive Ice Rink. A refreshing trip on the river Avon will reveal even more and the 21 st century sits comfortably alongside all this heritage with stunning modern city architecture such as Bristol's Millennium Square and Temple Meads.
